An afternoon departure from Ringaskiddy puts you in Brittany after breakfast, with no British road in the trip at all. It sails twice a week, roughly April to October.

Gas bottles
Up to three butane or propane cylinders, 47 kg between them, with no limit on any one bottle. Caravans and campervans only, and for the vehicle's own lighting, heating and cooking. Secured against the movement of the ship, kept away from heat, and shut off at the cylinder for the sailing.
Pets
Which ship you get decides this. The Pont-Aven has 28 pet-friendly cabins on deck 6 and 66 kennels on deck 10, with an exercise area between them, and a pet can't stay in the vehicle. The Armorique has 19 pet-friendly cabins on deck 9, no kennels at all, and does allow a pet to stay in the vehicle. Pets are leashed and muzzled anywhere outside the cabin, and the space sells out in summer.Paperwork: an EU pet passport or a GB Animal Health Certificate, a microchip, and a rabies vaccination at least 21 days old. A dog also needs a vet-administered tapeworm treatment 24 to 120 hours before it comes back into Great Britain. An Animal Health Certificate has to come from an official vet within ten days of travel, so it's booked well before the crossing is.

You come off into Brittany, with no toll road to reach it.

Bloscon exits onto the D58 with St-Pol-de-Léon 10 minutes away, Morlaix 25, Huelgoat forest about an hour and the Côte de Granit Rose an hour and a quarter. South on the D785 and N165, Quimper is an hour and a half and the Atlantic coast runs on from there.

Ringaskiddy, in season only, and open water most of the way.

It sails from Ringaskiddy Ferry Terminal, on the west side of Cork Harbour. Allow 30 to 40 minutes from the city on the N28 and more when the traffic is against you. There's no long-stay parking at the terminal, only drop-off and pick-up, and the Bus Éireann 223 stops a few hundred metres from the entrance.

Not on the main season timetable, which runs roughly April to the end of October, two sailings a week each way. Brittany Ferries has since published a thinner winter programme running into early November and beyond, so check your own dates rather than assuming the route is shut. For a trip well outside the season, the year-round crossings are Rosslare to Cherbourg and Dublin to Cherbourg.

The Saturday sailing from Cork is usually the Pont-Aven, the fleet flagship, with a pool, a choice of restaurants and a cinema. The Wednesday sailing is usually the smaller Armorique. Same route, and a different evening.

This is open water rather than a Channel hop. The crossing skirts the Celtic Sea and swell is common, so if anyone aboard is a poor sailor, book a cabin low and midships and take something for it before you sail rather than after.
